The event organizers recently made this announcement. Afro Nation is an annual celebration that unites Africans in the diaspora and is widely recognized as one of the globe’s most significant music festivals. Back in September, the organizers revealed the dates for their first-ever concert in Nigeria, slated for December 19 and 20. The venue chosen for the event was the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State. However, in a statement released by Smade, one of the co-founders of Afro Nation, the festival’s cancellation was confirmed. The statement reads in part, “Regrettably, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will not be taking place. As event organizers, we set very high standards for ourselves, and it has become evident that we cannot deliver a show of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023.” The organizers have successfully hosted events in Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit, but they hold a special place in their hearts for Nigeria. They expressed their deep regret at not being able to celebrate with their Nigerian fans this year. For those who had purchased tickets, the organizers assured that they would refund all tickets, including booking fees. Ticket holders will receive an email with instructions on the refund process. Fans of Afro Nation in Nigeria will have to wait a bit longer for the festival’s return, but the organizers remain committed to delivering a top-quality show in Lagos in the future.
