Attack By ADF Militia Kills 11 In Eastern DR Congo
A fresh attack attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) killed at least 11 people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, local sources said Wednesday.

Fighters from the ADF, which is affiliated to the Islamic State group, attacked overnight Monday to Tuesday at Vemba-Kinyamusehe in the Beni territory of North Kivu, as the villagers slept.
One woman who escaped the attack warned the neighbouring village, which sent teams to investigate on Wednesday.

Other villagers were still missing and the toll could still rise, said Augustin Kapupa, one of the local leaders.

The ADF, historically a Ugandan Muslim majority rebel coalition, established itself in eastern DRC in 1995.
Its adherents have since killed thousands of civilians, with attacks spreading from North Kivu to neighbouring Ituri province in recent years.
The group, one of the deadliest militias in the strife-torn area, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State organisation in 2019.

In late 2021, the Ugandan and Congolese armies launched a joint military operation against the ADF but they have failed to stop their attacks.
