Compressed natural gas (CNG) in comparison to other fuels poses less of a threat in the event of a spill, because it is lighter than air and disperses quickly when released.
The Niger State Government has received 10 CNG buses as samples purchased to cushion the effect of subsidy removal by the federal government.
The government had earlier signed an MoU with four separate companies for the procurement of 200 CNG buses at the cost of N7 billion.
The Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso, who announced this while addressing newsmen in Minna said the ten buses had arrived in Minna as samples for Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to inspect and provide recommendations.
According to her, some of the buses will be used by civil servants and the others by students as free transportation to schools with a view to ameliorate their hardship and encourage them to realise their potentials.
On the National Examinations Council (NECO), Aisha Wakaso said the state government had paid about N250 million as backlog.
She stated the government has also pledged N20 million monthly to the examination body to clear the backlog inherited from the past administration, since government is a continuous process.
Also briefing Newsmen, Mr Maurice Magaji, Commissioner for Lands and Survey of Niger State, said the contractor awarded six hectares of land to handle various road projects under the state government’s urban renewal policy has begun moving their equipment to site.
Similarly, Special Adviser to the Niger state Governor on Social Investment Programme, Hajiya Hauwa Bako Mohammed, added they were trying to oversee the sustainable of the momentum and bring innovative solutions that would help keep the youths, women and low-income earners busy towards addressing idleness across the state.
