Nigerian Afrobeat star Joeboy overcame a fever to perform on Sunday at the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) in Dominica.
Joeboy took to the stage at the Windsor Park Stadium around 4 am and he performed for a packed crowd of partiers, who braved torrential downpours, to witness his debut performance in Dominica.
He delivered a medley of his previous and new hits to the delight of those in attendance.
Following the performance, Joeboy told Loop News that he was “honoured” to be in Dominica to perform for the crowd, who were very receptive, even after his set was delayed for him to receive last minute medical attention.

“It’s so beautiful. It’s an honour and a blessing. Considering where I started from in a small studio in the city of Lagos and the fact that the music has crossed borders and crossed oceans to connect with my brothers and sisters in Dominica and the Caribbean, it is just so beautiful and I do not take that for granted,” he said.
This was Joeboy’s second time performing in the Caribbean but it was the first time he got to complete his set.
His performance at the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival on May 13 was abruptly cut after his DJ cursed on stage.
Chatting with Loop News exclusively about the experience, he said: “I’m just happy. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you expect it to. I’m just happy that I got to perform again in the Caribbean. It was a very, very unfortunate situation in that particular time but I’m thankful that we got over that and we are on to the next one.”
St Lucians, who were hoping to see Joeboy perform live on the island, won’t have to wait long as the “Wetin Be Love” singer promised to be back next year.
