Thembi Kgatlana’s strike helped Banyana Banyana draw 1-1 with DR Congo in the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers to be held in Paris.

WHAT HAPPENED: The African champions struggled to break the hosts’ defense in early exchanges, and were punished by Grace Mfwamba in the 40th minute.
However, Banyana Banyana upped their tempo after the break, and were rewarded after 48 minutes courtesy of Thembi Kgatlana.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Coach Desiree Ellis made history by helping Banyana Banyana reach the knockout phase of the Women’s Fifa World Cup. She had previously helped her team win the most recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
She is now hoping to continue with her good track record by helping the team qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Paris, France.
WHAT NEXT: Ellis has to ensure her players get the much needed consistency to stand a chance of making it to the next phase of the qualifiers.
The tactician is also preparing for the 2024 Wafcon qualifiers to be held in Morocco who reached the finals in the previous edition.
Banyana have been paired with Burkina Faso in the second round of the qualifiers.
