Uganda’s Fighter Jets Strike ADF Bases Deep in DR Congo

Uganda’s warplanes have bombed territories controlled by Allied the Democratic Forces (ADF) deep in eastern Congo, President Museveni has disclosed.

Museveni said the ADF insurgents were hiding in Mambasa, Ituri Province.

The ADF stronghold is located about 110 kms from the Uganda-Congo border.

“I take this opportunity to inform you that on Saturday morning, our long-range assets paid a visit to the authors of the plan to kill Ugandans with home-made bombs,” said Museveni in a statement on Monday night.

Government has previously blamed terrorist group ADF/ISCAP for carrying out bomb attacks in Uganda.

“Those bankrupt criminals, were in the areas of Mambasa territory, beyond the areas we had been allowed to operate in by the Congo Government, initially,” said Museveni.

“The good thing is that the Congo Government has now allowed us to follow these terrorists wherever they go,” he added.

ChimpReports understands President Museveni has been speaking to his Congolese counterpart, Felix Tshisekedi on the telephone over the joint military operations against ADF in DRC.

“We are awaiting the reports of the post-attack assessment to judge whether the criminals escaped or have, finally, paid for their sins,” said Museveni.

“If, however, they escape this time, they won’t the next one,” he emphasised.

Ugandan forces have six Su-30MK2s fighter jets acquired from Russia in 2011.

The aircraft are used for a variety of missions, including air superiority, ground attack, and reconnaissance.

The jet are believed to have conducted missions against Al Qaeda targets in Somalia, to provide support for UPDF acting under the Africa Union/UN mission (AMISOM), and have reportedly launched airstrikes against opposition forces in South Sudan.
